British resident bet 1 million pounds on Biden’s victory in the US elections.

An unknown Betfair customer from the UK has bet £ 1m ($ 1.29m) on Democratic candidate Joe Biden’s victory in the US presidential election. This is the bookmaker’s largest bet on a politician to win and the third largest bet in principle, according to CNN Business.

The bet nearly doubled the previous record for political events: in 2016, a Betfair customer bet £ 555,000 on Donald Trump’s victory. The one who bets if Mr. Biden wins the election will receive 1.54 million pounds (more than $ 1.98 million, taking into account the amount of the bet).

US election betting has gained traction in the UK amid a lack of major sporting events due to the coronavirus pandemic. Bookmakers accepted bets, including on the nomination of candidates from parties. In February, after the New Hampshire primaries, the odds on Mr. Biden’s nomination reached 100. In the United States, betting on political events is prohibited by a 2018 Supreme Court ruling.
